The famous Espelette chili – Ideal for drying and seasoning

The Gorria chili is a traditional variety from the Pyrenees, known as the basis for the famous Ezpeletako biperra (Piment dEspelette). With a pleasant, medium-hot spice and an intense aroma, it is perfect for spice mixtures, grilled dishes or stuffed chillies. The vigorous plants produce 10–14 cm long, bright red pods that are excellent for drying and powdering.

Flavour: aromatic and medium-hot

Heat requirement: high – ideal for protected cultivation

Nutrient requirement: medium to high – regular fertilisation recommended

Cultivation & care:

The Gorria chilli pepper loves warm temperatures and thrives best in a sheltered, sunny location. Sow from January to March, planting out into the open ground or greenhouse from May onwards. Regular watering and moderate fertilisation will encourage vigorous growth and a rich harvest.

Harvest & use:

Harvest time: July to October, depending on growing and weather conditions.

Uses: perfect for Piment dEspelette, spice pastes, barbecued dishes or stuffed chillies.
